OK, some of you were interested in finding out how I was doing with my workouts on a semi-regular basis, so here's my initial one...
First, fyi...I've been working out fairly regularly 4-5 days a week for about 3 months now1 where I can also use the "Fitlinxx" system to keep track of everything I do. Prior to that, I worked out only sporadically, and without Fitlinxx, largely because I didn't have a ride then. I did work out with the weights only, beginning in February. And before that, I NEVER went to the gym.
My weight training involves 9 different weight machines. Some of them, I have seen definate significant improvements in; particularly those that involve my legs, chest and abs. What's doing not so well are those that involve my right arm, such as lifting in an outward motion. although lifting straight up seems to have made a big difference in recent weeks, too. But, again, I see definate improvement in all nine weight machines.
Next up are all my cardio activities...
I ride a "NuStep" bike machine. Resistence originally ran from 3 up all the way to 8 out of 10, which is where I'm at now. I also used to run it from 5 minutes to 16 minutes currently. Steps used ran around 50 or 60. I now run it at 110! Wow! That's so cool I hardly even notice it anymore right now!
I walk around the track, too. I started to .3 miles with my cane, to .5 without a cane; and now, this week, I walked a full mile for my first time at the YMCA ever!
And I swim. Now, I will tell you, once again, my right leg and arm ain't what they used to be. I use one of those long, narrow foam rubber 'coozie' thingies to assist me in keeping me afloat. But having said that, I have doubled the amount I do. I manage to doggie paddle from back and forth 360 yards up to 720 yards, and as much as 910 yards! This is the first time I swam in 23 years!
I have stopped doing ALL the exercizes now days though, due to the increased amount of time they all now take these days. I weight train every day and I generally try and do two of the three cardio exercizes.
There are times these days, when I feel great when I'm in there. I honestly feel stronger because of it. I really like going there.
So I guess that's about it for the first one. I'll see you for another report in another three months!
