There's been negative posts in these forums about Oklahoma in the past.....rightfully when our looney legislators (Senators Inhofe, Coburn and St. Rep. Kern) say stupid things.

But here's a bit of good news.....the Tulsa City Council voted 6-3 in favor of adding sexual orientation to the City's non-discrimination policy. This had been sought for more than 15 years.

Interestingly enough, this was brought by a young Republican councilor.....not the Democrats.....sad to say as a hardcore Democrat (in fact, the first openly gay candidate for Tulsa City Council a little more than 10 years ago).

And just for icing on the cake, the Tulsa City County Library also added sexual orientation to its policies unanimously with no discussion! Only after having been asked to do so for 10 years!

I know that many other places did this long ago but here in one of the most conservative places, this is progress!

This is great news and it will help Tulsa greatly improve its civic image. I am well aware that it took 15 years for anti bias protection for gays, but better late than never. Keep in mind that Tulsa is relatively stagnant in population growth in both the central city and its surrounding suburban environs and its economy is holding its own through this tough recession. So I think that this is also another way to make Tulsa attractive and competitive for new investment and for the progressive minded Generation Y.
