Hello, everyone. Professionally, I'm a Linux system engineer running a big SaaS site - as an INTJ, any job that pays me to toy with the inner workings of wildly complicated things is absolute bliss - but I also enjoy music and literature and odd movies and licorice/liquorice and hyphens and the serial comma (even though I'm not using it here) and quick wit and slow beer and sometimes fast beer too and free culture and wikis and getting lost in foreign cities (especially when I don't speak the local language) and photography and history and open-source software and backpacking and trees and apples and statistics and logic puzzles and the smell of new-mown hay on a warm breezy July evening and the sound of an extra-base hit to the left field corner and dogs and optics and ROBOTS and random capitalization for emphasis and hyperbole and hyperbolas and technical documentation and the color of new ash leaves and run-on sentences and being thrown in the bioinformatic deep end and the way aloe gel feels on a sunburn and bibimbop and heavy things and multitools and the satisfactory thwack of a well-placed hammer strike and compost and secret restaurants and Björk and the {{cn}} and {{sofixit}} templates on Wikipedia and oddly-placed gamelans and jury duty and TACKLING and "equity adjustments" and crazy J-pop videos and arcane but wonderful discoveries on Netflix and regional variations in spelling and learning just enough of foreign languages to get into trouble and the ping utility and petrichor and the word "petrichor" and jeans that fit well and black coffee and the squelching sound of cleats in mud and automated processes and the way my dog nudges me with his nose when I oversleep and the crunch of autumn leaves underfoot and the smell of Drosophila food (seriously!) and XKCD and the grunt when a scrum engages and the crackle of burning firewood and the sinewy part where a muscular thigh meets the hip and fresh radishes and filthydirty drinking songs about Hanna-Barbera characters and walking in the rain with the hood up while listening to good music and demolishing the competition at trivia nights and dulce de leche and cardamom and plyometrics and people who don't take themselves too seriously and the breeziness of a good pair of rugby shorts and the sound of a lime splashing into an unsuspecting rookie's drink and a warm bed on a cold night and a quality whistle and a lightly-chilled malbec with a juicy grass-fed steak and LEDs and the first blast of air conditioning on a blazing-hot day and that little divot on the inside of the elbow on a muscular arm and stealing a hook from a skillful opponent and that moment when a lengthy dinner prep comes together and cute boys with South African accents and cool foggy mornings and seeing the giant rainbow flag every day on my morning commute and living on stairs and a few thousand other little things which escape me at the moment but which I'll think of soon enough.

Moved from St Louis to San Francisco in June 2014 for work. I am so glad that the move is over, and I'm not eager to repeat it any time soon.

Playing rugby again, after being away for far (, far, far) too long. I can't believe how much I've missed it, or how well my body has been responding to it (never mind the bruises), or how much I love hooking. I'm also a referee, so now I get to have two entire teams of buff, athletic men, plus their coaches and fans, call me "sir" and obey my every command. Looking forward to picking things back up after the big move.

At the gym, I am all about the squats.

I've had HIV since January 2002, and it hasn't slowed me down at all. Modern medicine is a wonderful thing.

Thank you to everyone who voted me Man of the Day for July 26 2012! I really didn't see that coming, but I promise to use my platform (?) only for good, and not as a place from which to launch water balloons.
