Athletes march from all directions into the Olympic Stadium. Belgium was particularly visible with bright yellow umbrellas raised high above their heads.
For many, the march into the stadium was both emotional and empowering. "This is the most amazing thing I have experienced ever!" said Mischa Krawzow, an Aussie born in Perth, Australia. The Bulgarian delegation danced joyously into the stadium, enthusiasm rushing through their veins. Toronto water polo player Albert Kim was so overwhelmed by the experience he was in tears.
Spectator Wesley Johnson of Montreal said that the athletes march was both touching and exhilarating. "It was the most memorable part of the ceremony particularly knowing that so many of these athletes come from countries where they are persecuted for being gay or lesbian."
